A supporter who signs up through an affiliated organisation, such as a trades union

AGM
Annual General Meeting. This is where representatives to make-up the CLP’s Executive Committee is elected once a year.

BAME
BAME stands for Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic

CAC
The Conference Arrangements Committee is the committee which determines the shape of the agenda for Annual Conference, rules on the validity of contemporary and emergency motions, and acts as the steering committee for the conference. Members periodically elect people to the CAC.

Canvassing (also called “door knocking”)
This a doorstep conversation with a voter, the gold standard of election campaigning. Here we find out the things that are important to voters and encourage our supporters to get out to vote.

CLP
Constituency Labour Party.  The CLP is made up of several wards and based on the electoral area for the election of MPs

EC
Executive Committee. Elected officers at constituency level form the Executive Committee. It manages the CLP and helps run the local party in its day-to-day activities. It is elected once a year at our Annual General Meeting (AGM).

GM
General Meeting. The General Meeting is where decisions are made for the whole constituency. They are usually on the third Wednesday of the month unless otherwise notified.

GOTV
Get Out The Vote. You’ll hear a lot about this around election time. Throughout a campaign we identify Labour voters (through canvassing), we then encourage them to go and cast their vote on polling day.

LCF
Local Campaign Forum – a borough-wide group of delegates from Islington North and Islington South & Finsbury CLPs as well as from the council to discuss campaign issues for the borough

INCLP
Islington North Constituency Labour Party

NEC
The National Executive Committee is the governing body of the Labour Party, overseeing the overall direction of the party and the policy-making process. It sets strategic objectives on an annual basis and meets regularly to review the work of the party. You can  find out about who is currenly on the NEC here

NPF
National Policy Forum. The NPF meets several times a year to make sure that the direction of our policy reflects the broad consensus in the party. Between meetings, the representatives that make up the body liaise with the members, supporters and public who submit to Labour Policy Forum.  It is composed of representatives of CLPs and regions, Labour Councillors, affiliated trade unions and socialist societies, the Parliamentary Labour Party (PLP),  and other groups within the Party.

PLP
Parliamentary Labour Party composed of our Members of Parliament

Registered Supporter
A supporter who paid just to vote in a leadership contest; this expires a year after the date you joined unless you re-join as an Affiliated Supporter or full Member You can re-join here.

Short campaign
A period of time before election day during which all details of expenditure must be sent to the candidate for inclusion in their records.

Ward (sometimes also called a “branch”)
The basic geographical building block of the Labour Party. Islington North has eight Wards – Arsenal, Finsbury Park, Highbury, Hillrise, Junction, Mildmay, Tollington, Tufnell Park

Young member
If you are under 27 you are automatically a member of Young Labour.
